Every Pactile keepsake begins with your pet - but not every photo is ready to become artwork.
Our Professional Image Refinement service transforms your original photo into a clean, production-ready design by carefully isolating the features that make your pet unique. For paw impressions, that means separating each paw pad, removing surrounding fur, cleaning edges, and preparing every detail for printing so the finished piece looks intentional, elegant, and true to your companion.
What We Do
Depending on the product, our refinement process may include:
- Carefully isolating paw pads, nose prints, or other impressions
- Removing surrounding fur and distracting elements
- Cleaning edges for crisp, professional results
- Preparing artwork specifically for tactile printing
- Optimizing detail for the size of your finished keepsake
- Ensuring your design translates beautifully across different materials
This refinement is what allows a photograph to become artwork.
Why Is It a Separate Service?
Most of the time required to create a custom keepsake happens before we ever begin printing.
Once your design has been professionally refined, it can be used again and again across multiple products without repeating the design work.
That's why Professional Image Refinement is charged once per unique design, not once per product.
For example, you might purchase:
- A framed Pactile Paw Impression
- A TouchStone
- A Floating Pactile Magnet
- A Keychain
All from the same refined artwork.
Separating the design from the products helps keep companion items and smaller keepsakes more affordable while ensuring every piece maintains the same professional quality.
💡 Good to Know
Professional Image Refinement is a one-time design fee. If you create an account with us, your pet's refined image can be used on future orders across compatible Textured Memories products without paying for refinement again.
Products That Require Refinement
Professional Image Refinement is required for products that use isolated impressions, including:
- Pactile™ Paw Expressions
- Pactile™ Nose Expressions
- Pactile™ Body Expressions (ears, wings, tails, shells, etc.)

Pactile™ Print Expressions (ink prints)
- Depending on the quality, these may not need refinement, please look closely at your print and see if the background is clear and the print is smudge-free.
- TouchStones featuring Expressions
- Floating Pactile Magnets
- Other products that rely on isolated artwork
If you've already had your image professionally refined by Textured Memories, simply upload that refined version when placing future orders or reference your previous upload in the comments (tracked by phone number and file/pet name).
Uploading Your Own Refined Image
You're welcome to create your own refinement if you prefer. If you choose the No Refinement option, we'll print your artwork exactly as it is submitted.
Please make sure:
- The subject is completely isolated.
- Edges are clean and well defined.
- All stray hairs have been removed from the outside edge.
- The background is truly transparent or cleanly removed.
This is especially important for products printed on darker materials, such as TouchStones, where leftover background pixels or small halos around fur can become visible. On white products they may blend in, but on natural stone or darker surfaces they can noticeably affect the finished appearance.
If your uploaded file isn't suitable for production under the No Refinement option, we'll pause your order and contact you before moving forward. We'll never print a product that we believe won't meet the quality standards you expect.
